Building Community

Updated: Dec 3, 2019

Dear Journal,

ree
Handwritten by Leyton, personally welcoming me into the MY/SRL cohort

I'll be honest with you. I missed writing you on this week and now I am coming back to recall what happened this day. So, I will have to admit, this won't be the best journal entry in the collection, but I will do my best to recall what I have learnt.

From what I can recall, HOT SEAT was the highlight of the day.

It was such an engaging way to re-consolidate our learning from the reading.

There are a couple things that stood out to me:

  • Fun activities such as HOT SEAT is such an effective strategies to implement into teaching practice because it engages students from various access points. Those students who are feeling active has opportunity to share, and those students who want to chill has that opportunity as well.

  • It allows appropriate goofiness and character to come out in an inclusive manner. Because of the loos nature of the activity, it allows students to feel comfortable to present it raw and authentic to their own learning and understanding.

This day was also the day when we got into our teaching team for the first time. It was really helpful that the readings had so many ideas, which we implemented in our teaching team. The readings that we read are from Building Community. Teaching Fairly in an Unfair World which provided me some strategies I can bring to classroom to promote inclusive environment with engaging activities.
