TEACHING VALUES
My education philosophy is guided by six core values aimed at and preparing students to think on and achieve goals beyond themselves. These values have been derived from the Jesuit Philosophy of Education.
SIX CORE VALUES OF EDUCATION
CURA
PERSONALIS
Latin phrase meaning "care for the person," cura personalis is having concern and care for the personal development of the whole person. This implies a dedication to care for students in their development of the mind, body and spirit.
MAGIS
Latin meaning the “more,” magis embodies the act of pursuing excellence and greater good of the person and the community. It does NOT mean always do or give "more" to the point of exhaustion. Rather, it strives for an endless process of growth.
PERSON FOR &
WITH OTHERS
This value embodies a spirit of embracing and serving those in need and neglected. We are encouraged to pursue justice and to cultivate a culture of inclusiveness and belonging. This first begins in our own families, classrooms and in our own communities.
UNITY OF
MIND & BEING
Our mind and being are not divided; they are congruent when the whole person is educated and engaged. It is only when the harmony of the two are achieved that a person can truly flourish in their identity and be ready to give to the world the unique gift that they are.
Critical analyses and knowledge of the world does not end in classrooms. Rather, a seed sown in a class must bear fruit in the world. Each student has the capacity to be change-makers, and advocates for those who are voiceless.
FINDING ONESELF IN ALL THINGS
Most importantly, a student must be able to recognize their own role and connect themselves to all activities being carried out. It invites a person to search for and find a greater purpose of their existence in every circumstance of life.
