Getting Ready to Teach

Updated: Dec 10, 2019

Dear Journal,

I do not have much time to write to you today, as I am busy continually looking over my lesson plans for final edits. However, I do want you to capture some of the feelings I am having:

  • First, I am feeling pretty proud of all the work I have put into preparing my short practicum. I want to thank my SA for all his guidance and encouragement to be not afraid.

  • Second, I really hope students will enjoy and learn the core understanding my lessons since every aspect of it has been designed with consideration to their strengths, stretches, interest points and energy level.

  • Third, above all, I really hope students will come to believe through my lessons that I am on their side, wanting each of them to succeed. This aspect of teaching will be found within myself, not in lesson plans. The saying goes: "You teach who you are". May I be authentic to the students and have them feel safe, appreciated and honoured for who they are. May they feel encouraged to take the next step to move on forward.

Shape of the Class:

4. Exit Slip. To recap what was learned during the lesson.
